Tempeh skewers with peanut sauce

Marinated tempeh skewers. We never cooked with Tempeh before so it was high time to give this well-known meat substitute a try.
Tempeh is a cake made of soybeans from Indonesia.
Tempeh has a slightly sour flavour after preparation. It absorbs other flavours well and is therefore suitable as an ingredient for various dishes. It is widely used in Indonesian cuisine and is also popular in the West as part of vegetarian or vegan meals.
We started simple. Tempeh marinated (you can also use a satay marinade for this), threaded on skewers and grilled briefly. Delicious with peanut sauce. And a great combination with cauliflower nasi.

 

Tempeh skewers with peanut sauce

Tempeh is a vegetable product made from fermented (soy) beans. Tempeh can be marinated very well so that it takes on the flavor of the marinade. We now made tempeh sateh skewers with an Asian marinade and combined it with a little peanut sauce.

Ingrediënten

Tempeh skewers

  • 250 gr tempeh
  • 1 table spoon sesame oil or peanut oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 table spoon sambal oelek
  • 2 tablespoons sweet soy sauce

Peanut sauce

  • 100 gr peanut butter
  • 1 small small
  • 2 tablespoons sweet soy sauce
  • 2 table spoon cane sugar
  • 1/2 table spoon sambal oelek
  • 200 ml coconut milk

Instructies

Tempeh skewers

  • Mix 1/2 tablespoon of sesame oil, the onion powder, the sambal and 2 tablespoons of soy sauce.
  • Cut the tempeh into dice.
  • Marinate the tempeh in the marinade for at least 30 minutes, longer is also possible.
  • Thread the tempeh onto skewers.
  • Put 1/2 tablespoon of sesame oil in a grill pan and grill the skewers for a few minutes. Turn regularly.

Peanut sauce

  • Fry the finely chopped shallot in peanut oil. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well.
  • Keep stirring vigorously so that the ingredients mix well. When the sauce has boiled, it is ready. Season with salt and pepper.
