Vegan satay, the Asian skewers. Make them with seitan or tofu, which you marinate in Asian flavours and grill on the grill or on the barbecue.

Vegan satay with peanutsauce

Delicious vegan satay, make your own peanut sauce or buy ready-made at your supermarket. You can choose to buy the saté marinade or make it yourself. The choice is yours but the result will always be delicious.

Saté marinade

  • 2 teaspoons coriander seeds
  • 2 teaspoons cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 2 teaspoons ginger powder
  • 1 teaspoon sambal oelek or chili pepper paste
  • 6 tablespoons ketjap manis or sweet soy sauce

Seitan saté

  • 400 gr seitan or tofu
  • 6 skewers


  • 1 jar peanut butter
  • 1 tin coconut milk
  • marinade liquid



  • Place the skewers in a bowl of water to prevent burning later.
  • Homemade marinade: Combine all marinade ingredients and stir.
    Store satay marinade: put the marinade in a bowl.
  • If the seitan/tofu comes in a block, cut it into cubes.
  • Add the seitan/tofu to the marinade, stir and refrigerate. You can also do this a day in advance.
  • Thread the marinated seitan/tofu cubes onto the skewers.
  • Bake the satay on the barbecue or in the winter on your grill pan.

Satay sauce

  • Place the peanut butter in a pan.
  • First add half of the coconut milk.
  • Add the satay marinade.
  • If you like it spicy: add some extra sambal to the sauce.
  • Bring the sauce to a slow boil while stirring.
  • Taste and add more salt and pepper if needed.
