Dutch mini pancakes/Poffertjes

Poffertjes, an old Dutch delicacy that is not known in all countries. That is why we thought it would be fun to include this recipe on our site. For Dutch people abroad nostalgia but perhaps for people of other nationalities the discovery of something delicious.

Dutch Mini Pancakes / Poffertjes

  • 1 mini pancake pan
  • 1 spray bottle


  • 150 gr flour
  • 1,5 tsp dry yeast
  • 250 ml (vegetable) milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • butter or sunflower oil
  • powdered sugar


  • Mix the flour with the yeast and add the milk little by little while mixing. If necessary, use some more milk.
  • Add the salt.
  • Mix until a slightly thicker mass is formed. The batter remains thicker than that of pancakes.
  • Heat the mini pancake pan until it is very hot.
  • Use a brush to grease the dimples with melted butter or sunflower oil.
  • Using the spray bottle, spray the batter into each dimple.
  • As soon as the top is dry, turn the poffertjes quickly with a fork and let them cook on the other side for a while.
  • Slide the poffertjes onto a plate and start again.
  • Divide the poffertjes over plates and eat them with icing sugar and butter.
