These flatbreads are used for all kinds of fillings, especially for Shoarma. You can buy them in the supermarket but then they are so dry. So we tried to make them ourselves and even our first attempt resulted in delicious rolls. Try it yourself, it is easy and after tasting these rolls, you will never appreciate store bought ones.

Pita rolls

  • 500 gr flour
  • 150 ml water
  • 150 ml soymilk
  • 25 gr fresh yeast or 7 gr dried yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • Mix the water and milk and heat until lukewarm. Add the yeast and sugar and stir.
  • Mix the flour, water/soy milk mixture, olive oil and salt in a food processor or by hand.
  • Divide into 10 equal pieces. Make balls from each piece. Roll out each ball on a floured work surface into a round piece. Do not roll out too thin, because then all the air will be out. And place on the baking tray.
  • Let rise on the baking sheet for 40 minutes with a tea towel over it.
  • In the meantime, preheat the oven to 230 degrees.
  • Place the pita breads in the oven and bake for 10 minutes until golden brown, not too dark.
